Golf Swing Tips Summary - The Golf Swing Mistakes I Haven’t Forgotten!
Remember, I suggested that many good golfers may have forgotten the 2 or 3 problems that kinked up
their golf swing.
Well, I DO still remember the faulty golf swing mechanics and neurotic golf swing thoughts that resulted
in that less than memorable worm burner shot or that weak 70 yard shot off to the right. Here’s my list of
golf swing tips to help you avoid some golf swing killers.
Golf Swing Tip #1
A good golf swing has almost nothing to do with your arms!
I usually describe it as putting my golf club behind my back while I’m turning my back to the target. That’s why I talk about taking the golf club back as hinging my arm at the shoulder.
Also, when I think less about my arms and where they are going and where they will end up, I’m less likely to bend my left elbow on the back swing. I’ve taken away any reason I had to bend to bend that elbow.
Practicing the No Arms Drill will help.
Golf Swing Tip #2
Don’t forget to cock your wrists!
Take the golf club back straight! Everybody tells you to take the golf club back straight! And they’re right, but I was so concerned about going back straight that I never really cocked my wrists. And if you don’t ever cock your wrists, you will never un-cock your wrists. I’m sure this causes a whole list of things to go wrong that all lead to an embarrassing tee shot.
This doesn’t have to be a golf swing thought. It will become automatic with practice. Just be sure that your wrists are cocked at a 90 degree angle by the time your left arm is parallel to the ground.
Golf Swing Tip #3
Let your left arm roll slightly clockwise at the start of your back swing.
This is not something you actually have to think about. It will happen naturally if you let it. All I’m saying is not to resist this natural movement. You might try to resist it because this movement causes the golf club head to go slightly open as it happens. Just let it happen.
4. Keep your feet on the ground!
This must be a baseball swing thing. Letting the front foot heel come way off the ground during the golf back swing. I suppose it makes the back swing feel bigger.
Seems to me that lifting that front heel just makes coiling the body and creating tension that much more difficult. I think it’s OK to let that foot roll to the inside, but keep that foot on the ground to anchor your golf back swing.
Golf Swing Tip #5
The Golf Down Swing - Starts from the bottom.
Let’s say you do everything right with your golf grip, golf stance, and golf back swing. You can then still screw everything up if you start your golf down swing with your shoulders.
Use a golf swing trigger that starts your golf down swing with your lower body.
Golf Swing Tip #6
The Golf Down Swing (again) - Turn your belt buckle to the target!
When I focused on this as my main golf swing thought for my golf down swing, my drives started going noticeably longer and straighter. I always turned my hips to the target, but I did it more casually as almost an afterthought. Now I try to turn my hips as fast and as powerful as possible.
*** For what it’s worth, items #1, 2, and 6 made the biggest difference in my golf swing.
Relax! A good Golf Swing Setup is just not that tough! The good news is that you probably have a good athletic golf swing setup and all you need is to brush it up and be more relaxed.
You can can choose from three different Golf Grips. It’s your choice and you should choose the golf grip that feels right for you.
An athletic Golf Stance and golf swing setup is the launching pad for your swing. If you start with a bad stance, you’ll probably follow with a bad back swing, a bad downswing, and a bad follow through. Not to worry though. It’s just not that difficult!
Solid basic Golf Swing Steps or golf swing mechanics lead to an easy golf back swing, down swing, and follow through.
The Golf Back Swing - Don't think about your arms. Instead of thinking about my arms and swinging my golf club , I try to think of my back swing as turning my back to the target. I’m just putting the golf club behind my back.
My best advice for your Golf Down Swing, with one exception, is to just let it happen! The down swing and follow through should be the very natural result of everything that precedes it.
What little I know about the golf swing is already on these pages, but I’ll be glad to provide whatever Swing Tip Support I can. I'm no expert, and everything I've done here is probably incorrect according every golf aficionado on the planet. But then again, if it works, do you really care?
